No supply is without its tangible and intangible risks. These may arise from within this micro driven by circumstances that are business driven from within your own environment or that your supplier. Then of course, you have the global macro environment that way to frequently are being driven by politics and the world order as it currently stands as of 2026.
A simple formula for running such contingencies is to run a contingency scenario, like most militaries do, whereby you excluded access to your most prominent suppliers, or logistics players, and build a working model round that scenario. This can be expanded to include logistics routes and operators as well, based on a feasible backdrop.
I have successfully conducted these exercises for various clients and employers over the years. Even though many senior management officials often think it’s a waste of time and resources, it still makes strategic sense to have prepared workable fall-back options, than to be caught with your thumb where it has no place to be. Especially in this unstable time
